Thrifty Thursday: $10 Bookcase Makeover
Last week I started a series called Thrifty Thursday where I fix up something I have found at either a thrift store, garage sale, Craigslist or wherever “junk” may be found. My goal is to try to find something special, or that could be special, that I would enjoy spending some time and effort on. HERE is the link to last week’s segment of Thrifty Thursday where I gave a $5 frame a new life.
*Side note: I have an amazing sister who is more of a penny pincher than I am. She’s playing along with Thrifty Thursday and you’re definitely going to want to check our her blog! Click HERE.*
I found this pressed wood, subpar bookcase at Goodwill for $10. There wasn’t a lot of options as to what I could do with it. I could either paint it or leave it as is and try to sell it on Craigslist for what I paid for it. I decided to give this piece a chance and try to breath some new life into it.
I painted it a mix of Annie Sloan French Linen and Pure White. It’s a light taupe/gray color that is close enough to white without being white. The perfect neutral color. Here it is after two coats.
After three coats of paint and some clear and dark wax, this Thrift Thursday $10 bookcase makeover is complete. This bookcase has new life and a fighting chance to be used and loved my someone again. A little bit of paint goes a long way.
Thanks for reading this weeks segment of Thrifty Thursday. Painting furniture is absolutely my favorite thing to do. Transforming a piece of furniture from blah to beautiful, well it just can’t get any more fun than that. So back on the hunt I go, searching for the next Thrifty Thursday project!
