The curio cabinet of my dreams
YOU GUYS!!!!! MY DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE!!! I’m sooooo excited! I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for a piece like this. I’ve been dreaming of a beautiful French style curio cabinet for ages. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably seen me post about my dream cabinet that I found at my local antique store. It was a beautiful cabinet, with just the right amount of curves and plenty of needed storage. Unfortunately, it was out of my price range…ringing up at $775 pre tax. This was me showing my love to the cabinet about a year ago. Time to move on!
So I (attempted to) put it out of my mind. I started searching for a new *cheaper* cabinet. I scoured the internet for YEARS! I searched Craigslist, antique markets, fairs, Close5, Facebook sale sites and Etsy. I tried everything on a continual basis. The other week I gave eBay a chance. I never thought of eBay being a viable resource for furniture because, of course, I didn’t want to pay for shipping. But I decided to give it a try. I searched under “local” furniture and guess what I found? My dreams came true! I had found my dream cabinet. I bartered with the seller and I was able to get $150 off of her original listing price. Even with the lowered price, I still feel like I spent ALOT of money on this cabinet. But honestly, it was worth every single penny. I paid $475.
Here is the before picture. Don’t worry, it’s not an authentic antique piece.
I knew I wanted to paint it a light gray with darker gray accents. Shocker right?!?! By now you’re probably thinking that I don’t know how to paint a piece of furniture any color other than gray. HAHA
I used Annie Sloan Pure White (3 parts) and Graphite (1 part) for the main portion and for the accents, it was more half and half.
Here she is all painted and beautified.
Isn’t this little key amazing?!? And it actually works which is wonderful.
My Dreams Have Come True! I am so happy with this cabinet and I know I’ll be keeping it forever. Although, my husband doesn’t think I can keep anything forever (except for him).
